How Important Is My Dog's Oral Health?

More than likely, dental hygiene is a priority for your own health, but did you know your dog's oral health is a key factor in overall health?

In general, smaller breeds are known to have greater challenges with their teeth than larger breed pups.  Moreover, feeding choices and styles can impact your dog's oral health too.

Maintaining good oral health will not only promote overall wellness, but it will help prevent many of the challenges that impact your dog's quality of life throughout all life stages, including:

  1. Preventing tooth loss. When the structures supporting a dog’s teeth like gums and jaw bones become damaged or infected, the teeth loosen and fall out. Good oral hygiene will help your dog keep the teeth he has and contribute to overall health.

  2. No more bad breath (halitosis). If your dog's breath has a foul odor, oral health may be a factor. Proper oral health can go a long way to ending bad breath issues.

  3. May prevent oral pain. Dental disease, especially when it's severe, can be quite painful for dogs. Keeping your dog's teeth and gums healthy will help prevent oral pain particularly as your dog matures.

  4. May inhibit organ damage. Bacteria in the plaque can enter the bloodstream and spread to vital organs like the heart, kidneys and liver. This spread of bacteria, called bacteremia, can damage organs and can be a contributing factor to illness.  Good oral health can help prevent bacteremia, subsequent organ damage, and support your dog's overall wellness.

  5. Preventing worsening dental disease. Because so many dogs have dental disease by the time they're 3 years old, it can be difficult to prevent it from developing in the first place. However, good oral wellness practices can prevent dental disease from becoming severe and contributing to problems throughout the body.

Many pet parents try diligently to purchase quality products that are supposed to protect the gums and help teeth remain strong. However, sometimes it's just not clear which products will really get the job done.

Our HappyTails Canine Wellness™ Bestie Chews™ and HappyTeeth™ treats are scientifically formulated and carefully designed to not only deliver a chewtastic experience for your pup, that will help promote clean teeth and healthy gums, but to also deliver key functional benefits that support your dog's digestive and immune health.

Now that's something to BARK about!
