Meet Dr. Bart Dunsford!
We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Bart Dunsford, a renowned expert in companion animal nutrition and a valued member of the HappyTails family. Joining us as our canine wellness consultant earlier this year, Dr. Dunsford has been instrumental in guiding our product research and development, bringing a wealth of expertise and innovation to our mission of advancing canine health.
Currently holding a leadership role at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, Dr. Dunsford is celebrated as the go-to specialist for canine wellness ingredients. With over 20 years of experience spanning more than 40 countries, his unparalleled knowledge of specialty ingredients in the "biotics" sector—prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics—has made him a trailblazer in the field.
Dr. Dunsford’s insights into the gut-brain axis and the positive effects of probiotics on stress and anxiety are at the forefront of his research. As he explains:
"There is considerable evidence showing that different probiotic strains yield varying results in animals, including profound positive impacts on overall well-being. As our understanding of immunity and probiotics grows, we're uncovering functional benefits for different life stages and improving gastrointestinal health through multiple pathways."
Dr. Dunsford’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at Kansas State University, followed by a Master of Science in Nutrition and a Doctorate in Veterinary Anatomy from Texas A&M University. His graduate research focused on how specific nutrients influence gastrointestinal development. As a former assistant professor in the Animal Science Department at Virginia Tech and a leader in the industry since 2005, his dedication to advancing probiotics and prebiotics is unmatched.
