HappyTails Canine Wellness uses the Waltham® Method to calculate feeding guidelines. For over 50 years Waltham® has been a leading authority in dog and cat nutritional research and has delivered clinical and scientific evidence to support recommended feeding protocols for our cherished companion animals.

It’s important to appreciate that feeding guidelines are based on several factors such as genetics, breed, age, activity level, neuter status, energy requirements and life stage requirements To account for these variety of factors, we’ve provided detailed feeding guidelines on all our packages. The suggested servings listed on each package are guidelines and may need to be adjusted based on each individual dog’s needs.

What’s more, the canine digestive system can take time to adjust to new sources of foods and nutrients so it’s best to introduce our treats and supplements into your dog’s feeding protocol slowly. Initially, we suggest following the recommended feeding guidelines, regarding servings per day, and begin feeding 2-3 times the first week, 3-4 times the second week, then daily in the third week and beyond.

Food sensitivities are commonly developed over time and triggered by the protein content in the diet. Salmon oil does not contain protein and would not impact sensitivities.

Our beloved canine companions’ immune and overall health begins in the gut. Within the GI Tract or gastrointestinal tract, your dog has a unique collection of hundreds of different types of bacteria and other microbes known collectively as the gut microbiome. A healthy microbiome is crucial for your dog’s overall health, and supports everything from nutrient absorption to immune, skin, coat, and cognitive wellness. The delicate balance these bacteria try to achieve can be negatively impacted by diet, medication, stress, and life stage transitions. When the microbiome is out of balance, it can negatively impact your dog’s health and contribute to issues such as inflammatory digestive issues, immune system reactions, diabetes, weight gain, and even mood changes.

Fortunately, it is possible to restore and maintain a healthy gut microbiome for your pup without using medications with adverse side effects. In fact, it’s as simple as feeding your dog prebiotics daily. HappyTails™ includes clinically proven prebiotics in many of our treats and supplements because it nourishes and promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria while it inhibits the proliferation of potentially harmful bacteria. Additionally, it has been proven to reduce stool odors, enhance immunity, and support nutrient absorption resulting in a healthy and balanced environment in the microbiome and greater overall wellness.

We only source high-quality proteins and domestically and globally sourced ingredients, like New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels and Wild-Caught Sockeye Salmon, and we use local and fresh produce whenever it’s available.

We test every batch of our treats and supplements for Salmonella, E-coli and Listeria, and our products undergo rigorous testing for contaminants and environmental toxins as well.

Broadly speaking, the Guaranteed Analysis (GA) is the nutrient profile that can be found on the back of our bags. The GAs is your assurance that the levels of key nutrients like protein, fat, moisture, etc., are guaranteed for that product. For example, the crude protein level is calculated as follows: Guaranteed Crude Protein ÷ Dry Matter Content x 100 = True Protein Content. Our Jerky Treat recipes consist of 95% protein. When calculated for the GA it comes to approximately 48% Crude Protein.

Simply state, the GA is just that – guaranteed – so you KNOW exactly what your dog is getting!

The moisture packets we use are made from small amounts of Silica Gel Desiccant, which is non-toxic, meaning that it is not poisonous if eaten. However, there may be some risks associated with the packet getting lodged in the throat if swallowed whole. If your dog accidentally ingests this, the gel will absorb water within their stomach. We recommendation that you monitor your dog during feeding and make sure your dog drinks plenty of fresh, clean water to stay hydrated. Finally, remove the desiccant from the bag and safely dispose of it when the bag is empty for an extra measure of safety and security for your dog.
